A while back, I wrote about how you could get in on earning a share of the billion-dollar mobile app sales market without actually having to build the application yourself – Make Money From An iPhone or iPad App Without Making It. The other day I had a bit of a think about the revenue share model that Appswell uses to compensate people who’s ideas are made into a reality and came to the conclusion that it didn’t seem quite right. Why should someone else take a majority share of a creation that is your idea simply because they built it?
What got me thinking about all of this is that I am working on an app idea and I want it to be 100% mine. After doing a bit more research, it turns out there is software out there that people can use to create an app without any programming experience, one of which is iPhone Dev Secrets. The other option as previously mentioned is to hire a developer to build it for you, which due to time constraints is the option I am going with.
Because of the nature of the app I am going to get built, it will be available free of charge which obviously means it wont be generating any sales revenue. This got me to thinking about how I could make money from certain sections of the app.
That thought led to AdMob, which is an advertising network that provides solutions for monetising mobile sites as well as mobile apps. As far as monetising mobile apps goes, they provide you with tools that will enable you to integrate AdMob ads into your app. Given that Google owns them, they are bound to have a large pool of advertisers and therefore something that will match the context of your application. They also have a tool, AdWhirl that allows you to serve your own house ads, AdMob ads and ads from other networks all from one place which means you will be able to really maximise on monetising your mobile app.
So, if you are thinking of creating an app and want to monetise it, it would be pay to give AdMob a thought. Let me know what you think about what they have to offer.
