Quit Smoking and Save Thousands of Dollars!

I am not going to go into the whole thing about the health benefits of giving up smoking. What I am going to go into is the financial benefits. That is not to say that the health benefits aren’t important. There is enough information out there already that outlines the health benefits of quitting.

I came across an anti-smoking commercial on TV last night that caught my attention because the people in it were focusing on the financial benefits. Cigarettes are expensive in this part of the world and people may not realise just how much money they are spending on them. The Quit Group which runs quit smoking programmes here in New Zealand put up an online calculator to show you just how much you can save.

I have a friend who wants to quit smoking who I directed towards the calculator. He goes through about a 20 pack of Benson & Hedges (RRP $12.70) a day. After plugging these figures into the calculator it came up with the following:

He was really surprised to see just how much he is spending on cigarettes. He like a lot of people out there is not in the best position financially. The few thousands he could save a year would ease some of his financial pressures and now he is working on the hard task of quitting!

Besides the health benefits of quitting does ending up with hundreds or even thousands more per year give you more of an incentive to QUIT?
