MaxBounty: New Interface & $1,000 New Affiliate Bonus

A few hours ago MaxBounty sent out an email announcing announcing a $1000 affiliate referral contest. At the same time they also mentioned how they hoped I had already taken a look at their new site. Truth be told, I have not been over to MaxBounty in a bit of while but I like their new interface. The site looks much better than it used to and navigating around it is a lot easier.

In a nutshell, MaxBounty is a CPA (Cost Per Action) advertising affiliate network that has more than 10,000 active publishers. With more than 500 advertisers within their network you are spoilt for choice as to what campaigns to promote. Publisher payments are made on a monthly basis via cheque, PayPal or electronic transfer.

Monetize Your Site Search with PredictAd

PredictAd is a plugin that adds a search box to your site that you can monetize with non-intrusive contextual advertisements that appear at the bottom of a selection of refined search suggestions in a dropdown box. Signing up to their service is pretty simple but you then have to put in another application within your account in order to monetize your search.

PredictAd operates on a CPC basis with a revenue sharing model of 50/50 on network ads and 80/20 on site specific ads (you can have your own advertisers publish their ads on your site via PredictAd). Payments are made out via cheque once the minimum payout amount of $25 has been reached.

Sell Your Advertising Space

One the more popular ways of monetising a blog is by selling advertising space and some people have found this method to be very lucrative and easy to implement. Some sites have dead space or affiliate banners that are not pulling in any revenue. That space could be could be put to good use by displaying ads that are already paid for. If you play your cards right, you will have advertisers waiting in line to have their ads displayed as soon as the current one expires. From what I have seen so far, there are two main methods that you can employ when selling your advertising space. You can do it yourself or let someone else do it for you.

Do it yourself:

With this method, you have to deal with things such as communicating with advertisers, tracking payments, putting up the ads and keeping track of expiry dates. This can be time consuming but if you have time on your hands it could work well for you. A couple of ways you can go about doing it yourself are:

1) Advertise ad spots on your site – You can put up a simple box that says, ‘advertise here for $xx per month’ or similar and wait for interested parties to contact you directly.

2) Auction off ad spots – I have been on eBay! a number of times and seen people running auctions for ad spots on their blogs. Another option besides eBay! is Focial.

Get someone to do it for you:

If you get someone else to manage your ads, there isn’t a lot you have to do. You will have to provide them with some information about your site and then put up a banner in the space in which you want the ad to appear. From here on in it is a matter of sitting back and waiting for advertisers to come through. The only thing about these kinds of services is that there are usually associated fees but they are a less of a hassle than trying to do it yourself.
Here are some services that are worth taking a look at:

1) Project Wonderful – They use an auction style model to sell ads on your site which means you don’t need to set up a fixed price for the space. Advertisers name the price they want to pay and whoever pays the most gets their ad displayed. They support various ad sizes and you chose what you want to display. They even have options where you can display multiple ads within the same ad unit. Earnings are paid out via PayPal once you have earned $10.

A point of difference to them and similar services is their goodwill system. You have probably been on a number of sites with ‘advertise here’ banners which have been up for a while. This can discourage people from advertising on a site. With their goodwill system initial bids can be set at $0 where you offer free advertising. Advertisers may then see the benefit of advertising on a site which then gets the ball rolling for paid advertising.

2) 125box – 125box is an automated online advertising system. Their system is pretty basic and as per normal you enter in details of your site and your rates. They give you the option of putting in pricing for 1, 3, 6 and 12 months of advertising. Once you have keyed in all of this information you have to wait for them to approve the ad zone. When approved they send an email with the javascript code for the zone.

When a potential advertiser clicks on the 125box ad zone, a box pops up where they can put in their details, upload their banner image and more importantly see how much it will cost to advertise on your site. The only thing about their service is that you get 50% of the revenue so if you charge $20 a month you get paid $10.

3) Blaged – This particular service offers much more variety with the type of advertising you can display. Not only do they allow banner ads with the option of flash, you can display text and video ads as well. They do ask for a bit more information than Project Wonderful and 125box but they offer you more options. You can manage multiple websites from one account. You can set prices for the various ad types and you can have the option of allowing advertisers to make an offer. They pay you 80% of anything you make with earnings being paid out via PayPal.

Both methods have their pros and cons. If you are doing it yourself you don’t have to share the revenue with anyone but it can be time consuming. If you let someone else do it for you, you don’t have to worry much about a lot. All you really need to do may be to approve or reject ads but you will be sharing a portion of your revenue with the service provider.

125×125 ad blocks seem to be the most popular ad size at the moment. This may be because you can put up a number of them due to their size. You are not restricted to that size unit and can sell ad blocks of any size even if you get some else to do it for you. The decision is really up to you as to what size ads you are going to put up and how you are going to go about doing it. One thing to watch out for is to not have too many ads as it may distract readers and could lead to a drop in readership so try and find the right balance.

Focial.com – A Bloggers Marketplace

Focial.com is a new marketplace that was started up especially for bloggers. The site has 17 categories through which you can carry out activities such as auctioning advertising space, selling domain names, selling blogs, listing sponsored review opportunities and even an ‘other’ section which at the time of publishing this post has entrecard credits on auction.

It is very easy to navigate around the site and if you are used to online auction sites such as eBay! you won’t have a problem using focial.com. Even if you aren’t conversant with online auction sites you shouldn’t have a problem finding your way around and using the site.

I like the whole idea because amongst other things you could get advertising spots on high traffic blogs for a fraction of the price that you would normally pay if you were to go directly through the blog owners. Some people have managed to snap up a whole month of advertising for between $1 and $5.

If you can’t find exactly what you are looking for they also have a ‘wanted ads’ section. Within this section you can submit whatever it is you are looking for within the various categories and sit back and wait for a seller to respond to your listing.

There are fees associated with using the site but they are currently have a $25 sign up bonus which goes toward any fees and for each person you refer you earn $5. If you play your cards right you could be in a situation where you will never have to pay for fees.

Monetise Videos With blinkx adHoc Video Ads

blinkx adHoc is a service that allows you to place targeted ads on any video embedded on a website, blog or social network profile. What’s different about their service is that they show ads relevant to the content of the video.

You can choose to have the ads appear above the video player or as an overlay. When viewers click on the ads, the advertiser pays blinkx and blinkx shares 50% of the revenue with you. blinkx pays out users in $20 increments and payments are made via PayPal at the end of the month.

At the moment it works with the following video sites: MySpace, GoogleVideo, YouTube, Revver, Metacafe, Veoh, DailyMotion, Break, FunnyOrDie and CollegeHumor. If there are any other sites that you would like them to support all you need to do is contact them.

After having a play around on their site I found it to be pretty impressive and easy to use. All you need to do is copy and paste the embed code for a video onto their site, click next and then you are taken to preview screen where you are asked where you would like the ads to show. The last step it copying the code they generate and pasting it to your page. That simple!

WidgetBucks

This is a relatively new way of monetising your site. WidgetBucks have rich media ad widgets that display ads from various merchants. You earn money each time someone clicks on the ad widgets.

You can choose to have the widgets on your site displaying ads from certain product groups or you can choose the MerchSense option which runs ads that are relevant to your sites content and demographics. If you are wondering whether or not you can run WidgetBucks alongside Google Adsense and other ad systems the answer is yes. WidgetBucks can be run alongside all other ad systems.

Kontera is Gone

It has been about 135 days since I put Kontera ContentLink™ in-text ads on my blog. Within this time period I have been comparing the revenue generated from it to Adsense.

Over the first half of the trial period earnings between the two were just about on par with Adsense coming out on top. Since then, there has been a very big drop in Kontera earnings. I can’t even begin to imagine how long it would take to reach the US$100 pay out minimum.

I have noticed an increase in the number of bloggers who say they do not like Kontera at all. Some go to the extent of not bothering to read blogs that displays these ads. I may be starting to see more bloggers say they don’t like it as I am reading through more and more blogs as days go by.

Bottom line is, Kontera is not for me and it is gone!

Many people have been banned from or have a really big fear of being banned from Adsense. If it has happened or it does happen, it’s not the end of the world. There are so many other advertising channels that can be used to earn money from advertising.
