Make Money From An iPhone or iPad App Without Making It

People out there in the world are making money coming up with and developing iPhone and iPad applications. Some of us may have good ideas of what sorts of apps may come in very handy and ones that people would buy. As already mentioned in Make Money With Your Smartphone, we hit a snag when it comes to building the application.

If you have some ideas but don’t really want to go into the rigmarole of looking for someone at oDesk and paying them to build the app all is not lost. Appswell may be the solution for you.

Appswell is a free iPhone application that works on a crowdsourcing model where users submit their ideas. The community then votes on and provides feedback on ideas. The best ideas based on community votes are selected and built by the Appswell team. They will also take care of everything else such as launching and marketing the it.

If you are lucky enough to get your idea chosen you get a $500 payout and 10% of the profit the app makes. Submitting your idea could end up being profitable given the number of iPhone and iPad there are out there.

In order for you to be able to submit ideas you have to have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. One point that may not go down so well with some of you is that they keep all rights to applications but hey, you will still be getting paid something for pretty much doing nothing expect for coming up with an idea.

When it comes to iPhone apps there are many people out there who have made a killing by coming with something and selling it to the masses for $0.99. Not all of use are technically minded enough to build an application for a smartphone. We may have a good concept in mind but hit a brick wall when it comes to developing it. You can however do what Chris Guthrie has done and look for someone on oDesk and get them to develop the app for you.

If you don’t want to get that far in and are looking for an easy way of making a bit of money with your smartphone, you may want to try out WeReward. It is a mobile platform where you get rewarded for carry out certain tasks and actions. These tasks can be something as simple as taking a picture of yourself at a certain restaurant and sharing the experience on Twitter or Facebook to get rewarded.

Each point is worth a penny and you can cash out your points via PayPal once you have reached 1,000 points ($10). The WeReward site claims to have 15,000,000 businesses on their platform so getting to reach the payout amounts shouldn’t be a problem.

At launch it was only available as an iPhone app but now they have a android app available for download and soon enough they will have Blackberry app too. All that you need to get started with them is:
- a compatible smartphone
- a Twitter, Facebook or Foursquare account
- a PayPal account

At the moment they are only available in the US but hopefully they will go global in the near future.

Make Money on Twitter with MyLikes & Win $25

People have mixed feelings about making money via Twitter for various reasons which I wont go into in this post. I personally don’t have any qualms with the whole concept and I have been making money on Twitter via two methods so far. The first is Sponsored Tweets and the second is RevResponse and Twitterfeed (Monetise Your Tweets with Twitterfeed and RevResponse).

I recently came across MyLikes which is similar to Sponsored Tweets with the difference being that you get paid per click and not just a one off payment per tweet. Once signed up to Mylikes, you have access to a list of sponsors, their details and payment per click. All you do from there is choose what you would like to tweet about, write out what you have to say and post it, all from their site. Payments are made once you have reached a minimum balance of $2 and are paid out via PayPal every Friday.

Anyway, the main purpose of this post is to get people who haven’t tried making money via Twitter to give it a go. As an added incentive, I am going to give $25 (via PayPal) to someone once my MyLikes balance reaches $50. Once my balance reaches $50 a winner will be chosen at random and announced via a post and on twitter.

Monetise Your Tweets with Twitterfeed and RevResponse

As Twitter continues to grow, a lot of people are looking for ways to monetise their tweets and one of the ways of doing that is through a service such as Magpie or Adjix. One problem with them is that the particular tweet sent out may not be relevant to what you usually tweet about. Less people are likely to pay attention to them which in turn will mean lower earnings.

You can however send out tweets from RSS feeds that you are pretty certain your followers will be interested in and ones that could result in payouts for leads. Twitterfeed is a tool that automatically feeds your feeds through to Twitter for you. It gives you options that allow you to do things such as set the frequency at which you want updates to be sent out, a post prefix and suffix, the url shortening service you would like to use and a keyword filter.

As far as setting up a feed that could lead to you earning revenue goes, RevResponse is a very good option. For those of you that don’t already know about them, they are a pay-per-lead ad network with a range of free business resources that pays publishers whenever a user downloads their resources. The payouts range from $1.50 to $20 depending on what is downloaded.

The reason why I say they are a good option is because they offer a range of free business content and you will more than likely find something suitable to tweet about. If you took a look at what they have to offer you may have noticed that each category has an rss feed that you can add to Twitterfeed and your in business.

Magpie a Tweet or Adjix it For Cash

There are a number of ways of making money via Twitter with one of the more obvious ways being sending out tweets with affiliate and other related links. A more direct method of making money via Twitter is by getting paid to place ads directly into your tweets. There are a couple of services out there through which you can make money by advertising on Twitter; Magpie and Adjix.

Magpie is a service that embeds its own magpie-tweets at a frequency determined by you for example, one magpie-tweet for every 5 of your tweets. You are rewarded in cash for every successfully delivered magpie-tweet and the amount is dependent on the number of followers you have, the popularity of the tweet topic and the compensation model for a particular campaign. The compensation models offered are Pay-per-view, Pay-per-click, Pay-per-lead and Pay-per-sale. As a publisher you have to pre-approve what magpie-tweets show up on your timeline. This gives you total control over what you show and your preferred compensation model.

Before you sign up, you can do a rough estimation as to how much you could potentially earn per month. My estimate only came up to €1.48/month. Out of curiosity, I took a look to see what some of the people I follow would get if they were using Magpie and the highest estimate I came across (without naming them) was about €450.00/month. You can cash out your earnings (via PayPal) once your balance reaches €50.

Next is Adjix2Twitter Embed Ads by Adjix, a relatively new way through which Twitter users who embed ads at the end of their tweets can get paid. The ad format places an optional ad directly into a tweet.

The amount you earn per ad depends on the price an advertiser is willing to pay as well as the number of followers you have. As per the Adjix example, an Advertiser who sets their ad’s price at $0.001/Twitter-follower ($1 CPM) would pay $5 each time a Twitter user, with 5,000 followers, tweeted their ad. Advertisers get to see the contents of each tweet when their ad is embedded.

Payments are paid out via cheque at the end of each month Linkers with an account balance greater than $25.

Note: Adjix is only available in the US at present but they do have plans to eventually go global.

As a word of warning, you do have to be wary when it comes to placing ads (and affiliate links) in your tweets. A lot of Twitter users are not fond of ads and if you are a person who constantly has ads in their tweets, you could end up losing followers which in turn will mean a reduction in revenue. So, even though you could make a few extra dollars you need to think about the effect placing ads in your tweets may have.

Twitchhicker | Using Twitter To Get To New Zealand

Twitchhicker, also known as Paul Smith is a guy who is finding his way halfway across the world with the help of the Twitter community. His aim is to travel from Newcastle upon Tyne, UK to Campbell Island, New Zealand (a sub-Antarctic island 700km south of New Zealand) in 30 days with one of his rules being that he can only accept travel and accommodation offers on Twitter from users who are following him. I had no idea he existed until I saw John Campbell interview him earlier in the evening (here) from his current location in California.

I was very impressed by the whole idea of him setting off and making his way from Newcastle upon Tyne to Campbell Island and it just goes to show the power of social media if you use to your advantage. Paul had an idea, developed it and made it a reality before anyone else got onto it.

One thing that struck me the most during his interview was the mention of Air New Zealand offering to fly him across the Pacific. I did a bit of research and found out that he asked them if they could help getting him from LA to Auckland and they were more than happy to help. Him going out and asking if they could help and actually getting it brought me to thinking about SlyVisions talking about what SXSWi (by the way, Twitchhicker made it to SXSWi as well) taught him (What Did SXSWi Teach Me). The lesson was – Don’t Be Afraid To Ask!

In one week I have gone from reading about not being afraid to ask to seeing another person asking for help to get 10546 km (and more) and getting it. That was my biggest lesson of the week. Just imagine how much further we could get in a number of areas in our lives if we weren’t afraid to ASK?

Earn Money on Ciao’s Consumer Community

Ciao is an online community that reviews and rates millions of products for the benefit of other consumers. There are a number of comparison shopping sites where you can submit product reviews which is not a bad thing to do. The only thing is that most of them do not pay you for the review. Ciao does just that.

Reviews on some products are awarded a cash payment when members rate a review as “helpful”, “very helpful” or “exceptional”. The payouts for the ratings are 1 to 3 cents per rating. Yes, I know that is doesn’t sound like a lot of money but, each month they offer Premium Fund payouts of up to $2000 which is divided between the best authors. So, if you write high quality reviews that make it easier for readers to make a decision on a product you are rewarded for it accordingly.

Another way you can make money with Ciao is via their referral program. You can earn money by inviting friends to join and if you have your own site you can display Ciao banners. For each new active member you get a one-time payment of $1 and then 50% of the new member’s earnings for their first 6 months earning.

Payouts are made via PayPal at the end of the month once a member’s account has reached a minimum balance of $5. If you write product reviews now and then that you don’t get paid for try writing some on Ciao. They may pay off well.

Webmaster-Talk and EarnersForum Merger and $25,000

Forums are good place to meet people who have similar interests to you. They are also a place where you can learn a thing or two about an area of interest or where you can make a contribution and establish yourself as an expert in the area. Buy and Sell on Facebook with RadicalBuy

RadicalBuy opens up another avenue through which you can sell items on Facebook. Their widget allows you to list items for sale on your profile with the option of pushing your listings to Facebook’s marketplace for free which gives it exposure to the millions of Facebook’s users. A nice feature with their service is that even if you don’t have anything to sell, RadicalBuy allows users to sell items for others and get paid at a commission rate set by the original seller.

Putting up listings is pretty simple and only takes a few minutes. You just need to put in the basic information that you put in when selling anything and you can upload up to six photos per item. As you would expect, there are fees associated with using their service and in this case they are final value fees. The final value fee is based on a tiered structure which is as follows:
0-25.00 = 5%.
25.00 – 1000.00 = 5% for the first $25 + 3% of remaining value balance.
1000.00 + = 5% for the first $25 + 3% for the 25-1000.00 plus 1.5% of remaining value.

Checkout is handled between the buyer and the seller and payment methods are dependent upon what payment type the seller accepts. Sellers can choose from various payment options which include PayPal, Google Checkout, cash or credit card. I see PayPal as being an easy option. Since you are carrying out the transaction via Facebook you could add PayPal’s Request Money Application to streamline the process of sending and receiving payments.

At present you can also add the widget to your MySpace page or your website and in the near future you will be able to put it on just about any site. If you are on Facebook and have a few items to sell it wouldn’t hurt to try it out. Even if you don’t have anything to sell, you could just act as an affiliate and sell other peoples items for a commission.

Facebook is a fast growing social network on which more and more applications are being added. Some of them will let make a bit of money. Here are a couple that are proving to be quite popular:

Lending Club – Their application allows for person to person lending. A borrower submits a loan request which is then matched with lenders by LendingMatch™ and upon approval funds are transferred to the borrower. The loan is paid back over time with interest being paid to the lender.

Ether – They offer a service that allows users to sell their knowledge and expertise via the internet where people call you for whatever information they require. When you sign up you are provided with an Ether phone number that people call you on at whatever rate you charge such as $45 per hour, $35 per call and so on.

Another way that you could make money on Facebook is on their Marketplace. It’s a place where you can buy and sell items and works on an almost similar concept to Craig’s List. What’s nice about it is that there are no listing fees as there are on popular auction sites such as eBay! The only thing with it is that you may not get as wide an audience as might do on a site such as eBay! In saying that, you may have just the right audience for what you are selling and make a killing on Facebook’s Marketplace.

Publish on Associated Content and get Paid!

Associated Content (AC) is an online media company where you can submit content whether it be video, text, audio or images on any topics.

What’s great about AC is that you get paid for your submissions. After you submit your content it is reviewed and an offer is made for it. The offer usually ranges between $3 and $20. After that you can potentially earn a monthly ‘Performance Bonus’ based on the number of visits to your content.

It’s free to become an AC Producer. At present only citizens or legal residents of the United States are eligible for payment due to various regulations (which I am hoping will change in the near future). Payments are made only via PayPal.

Make Money via Facebook

Do you have a Facebook account? Do you want to make a bit of money from it? Well, PayPerPost has launched a Facebook application that lets you do just that. All it entails is linking up your Facebook account to your PPP account and getting your friends to sign up, that easy. I must say though that I stopped by their Facebook page and some people have commented saying that they have had trouble linking the two. I’m sure this is something that will be rectified soon.

PPP say they will have features for advertisers and posties. A tutorial video will be released but you can take a look at the application before the video release – click here.

At the moment all that seems to be happening is that for each friend that signs up and starts blogging for them, you get $15 per referral.

This wont be for everyone as some people will want to keep Facebook solely as a way of communicating with their friends. Some just don’t like PPP (for various reasons) and will be gnashing their teeth at the idea of them getting into this social utility. If you think it could work for you there is no harm in trying it out, inviting your friends and potentially making a bit of money.
