<p><em>follow up&#8230; Next matrix do a comparison of how much the major tradein programs give you for your electronics. We will win. <img src='http://www.ninetynineways.net/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' /> </em></p>
<p>I decided to do just that but in order to get started I needed a list of electronics that people were looking to get rid of so I asked around to see what electronics if any people would consider selling. The prices quoted are for items in a good working condition and including everything that came with it such as charger, USB cables etc. This is what I came up with:</p>
<table style="border: 1px solid #000000;" border="1">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td style="width: 150px;" valign="middle"></td>
<td style="width: 150px;" valign="middle"><img class="aligncenter" title="TradeUps" src="http://ninetynineways.net/wp-content/uploads/tradeups%20logo.gif" alt="" width="125" height="32" /></td>
<td style="width: 150px;" valign="middle"><img class="aligncenter" title="Gazelle" src="http://ninetynineways.net/wp-content/uploads/Gazelle%20logo.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="40" /></td>
<td style="width: 150px;" valign="middle"><img class="aligncenter" title="BuyMyTronics" src="http://ninetynineways.net/wp-content/uploads/BuyMyTronics%20logo.jpg" alt="" width="110" height="35" /></td>
</tr>
<tr style="background-color: #ffffcc;">
<td>Sony Cybershot DSC-P8</td>
<td>$0</td>
<td>$10</td>
<td>-</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Nokia 9300</td>
<td>$31.45</td>
<td>$4</td>
<td>$26.64</td>
</tr>
<tr style="background-color: #ffffcc;">
<td>Apple iPhone 8GB</td>
<td>$119.85</td>
<td>$128</td>
<td>$106.22</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>xbox 360 console 20GB</td>
<td>$41.65</td>
<td>$65</td>
<td>$52.92</td>
</tr>
<tr style="background-color: #ffffcc;">
<td>Apple iPod classic 4th generation 40GB</td>
<td>$21.25</td>
<td>$16</td>
<td>$18.08</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Toshiba Satellite A105-S4004</td>
<td>$127.50</td>
<td>$208</td>
<td>-</td>
</tr>
<tr style="background-color: #ffffcc;">
<td>Palm Treo 680</td>
<td>$36.55</td>
<td>$28</td>
<td>$22.20</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Sony Playstation One</td>
<td>$8.50</td>
<td>$0</td>
<td>$0</td>
</tr>
<tr style="background-color: #ffffcc;">
<td>Blackberry 8700G</td>
<td>$18.70</td>
<td>$12</td>
<td>$1.11</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Microsoft Zune 8GB</td>
<td>$26.34</td>
<td>$42</td>
<td>$31.64</td>
</tr>
<tr style="background-color: #ffffcc;">
<td>Total</td>
<td>$431.79</td>
<td>$513</td>
<td>$258.81</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
<p style="text-align: right;">(- = item not listed in catalog)</p>
<p style="text-align: right;">($0 = no value but they will recycle it for you)</p>
<p>So there you have it, as you can see from the matrix, it was a tie between TradeUps and Gazelle. Out of the 10 electronic devices listed TradeUps offered a higher price for 5 of the items and Gazelle offered a higher price for the rest. BuyMyTronics did not offer the best price for any of the items. When it came to the best overall price for all 10 gadgets, Gazelle came out on top and offered $81.21 more than what TradeUps offered.</p>
<p>In conclusion it looks like it would pay to do a bit of research to see where you will get the best price before you decide on who you are going to sell your electronics to. By the way, as I was putting together this matrix I came across another similar program you might want to take a look at – <a href="http://www.yourenew.com/" target="_blank">YouRenew</a>.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span lang="EN-NZ">A few months ago I wrote a post about selling your old electronics online and of the services mentioned was <a href="http://whereisthatmoney.blogspot.com/2007/12/sell-your-old-electronics.html">Second Rotation</a>. As of the 28th of July, Second Rotation changed their name and services to Gazelle. The re-branded site features new upgrades which make using their service easier and more enjoyable.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-NZ"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span lang="EN-NZ">As a start they have enhanced their search tool which includes an improved calculator that displays the value of items over time. I put in the details of my cell phone (Samsung z400) and the price it came to ($42) was pretty good considering that I got it for next to nothing. </span></p>
<p><a><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5230541254813463394" style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" title="Gazelle Calculator" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_LfKKhOaC4ks/SJadjwQus2I/AAAAAAAAAcI/4QiEhSabfTQ/s400/Samsung+z400+on+Gazelle.bmp" border="0" alt="Gazelle Calculator" /></a></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span lang="EN-NZ">They have more product categories to choose from which increases the likelihood of you finding the item you want to sell. If the item you are trying to sell is not in their catalogue they will research it for you and make a personal offer within 3 to 5 days.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-NZ"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span lang="EN-NZ">Another great feature with their upgrade is the introduction of a referral system where you earn $10 when a referred friend sells at least $50 worth of items to Gazelle. Their referral system lets you send out email invitations or put links on social networks and blogs so even if you don’t have anything to sell you can still make some money.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-NZ"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span lang="EN-NZ">As far as shipping items goes, it is free within the United States via their partnership with UPS and USPS. They accept and pay for electronics from outside the U.S. but in this instance they do not offer free shipping. Payments for items sold and referrals are paid out via cheque, PayPal or the money can be sent to a non-profit organization of your choice.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-NZ"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span lang="EN-NZ">Gazelle is doing their bit in being kind to the environment by buying used electronics and recycling electronics that no longer have a market value. They are a green certified site which is of importance for the many people around the world who are trying to keep it clean and green<em>.</em> Instead of just throwing away your electronics or hiding them in a box for years and years until you eventually throw them away send them off to Gazelle and not only do your bit at trying to keep the world clean and green but get paid for it.</span></p>

Some of these gadgets we do not use anymore for varying reasons. You may have had a cell phone or iPod or digital camera etc. for a while and felt the need to upgrade to something bigger and better or you may have had to replace it because it broke. You eventually end up with one, two or a few gadgets that you don’t know what do with and don’t think will get any money for. If you don’t know what to do with them, recycle them and get paid. You will be doing your bit for the environment by not throwing them away and making and bit of cash whilst you are at it.</p>
<p>There are a few places online that will let you do just that. All it takes is you providing a bit of information on the condition of what you want to get rid of. They then give you a figure for which they will buy the item from you for. If you are happy with what they are offering, you ship it to them and get paid after they have received and inspected the item.<br />
<a href="http://www.gazelle.com/?ref=gndoro-gma3574"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5141507763480065362" style="margin: 0px 0px 10px 10px; float: right;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_LfKKhOaC4ks/R1pOEewkdVI/AAAAAAAAAJw/7aDdJu16wX8/s200/SecondRotation+SC.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-NZ"><span style="font-weight: bold; color: #ff0000;">*NOTE*:</span> <span style="color: #ff0000;">SecondRotation have changed their name and become bigger and better</span> <a href="http://www.gazelle.com/?ref=gndoro-gma3574">Gazelle.com</a>. <span style="color: #ff0000;">Read about it here –</span> <a href="http://whereisthatmoney.blogspot.com/2008/08/sell-your-old-electronics-pt-2.html">Sell Your Old Electronics Pt. 2 – Gazelle.com</a></span></p>
<p><script src="http://www.qksz.net/1e-g26i" type="text/javascript"><!--</p>
<p>// --></script><br />
<a href="http://www.gazelle.com/?ref=gndoro-gma3574">SecondRotation</a> accepts a range of gadgets from cell phones to GPS devices. Finding the gadget you want to sell is relatively easy as they have graphical representations of all the items they buy. After you have gone through providing them with the details on the condition of your gadget and have accepted their trade in offer you are taken through to a screen where you provide them with your details and how you would like your payment to be sent to you (by cheque or <a href="https://www.paypal.com/nz/mrb/pal=WJDH7BZK6ZY9J">PayPal</a>). The last step is organizing shipment of the item(s) to them. What I like about them is that it’s free to ship your item(s) to them. All you need to do is pack it up, give DHL a call and they will come and pick it up. It couldn’t be any easier.<br />
<a href="http://www.buymytronics.com/"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5141507518666929474" style="margin: 0px 0px 10px 10px; float: right;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_LfKKhOaC4ks/R1pN2OwkdUI/AAAAAAAAAJo/QQec6HYnBA4/s200/BuyMyTronics+SC.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br />
Another option that you could take a look at and compare to <a href="http://www.gazelle.com/?ref=gndoro-gma3574">SecondRotation</a> is BuyMyTronics. They work pretty much along the same lines as SecondRotation. At present they are only accepting iPods, iPhones, Zunes and game consoles. They are working on accepting other electronic devices. A point of difference between the two is that BuyMyTronics does not offer a free shipping option and you have to ship the item to them at your expense.</p>
<p>Both sites offer pretty good services and it would pay to compare the trade in values that they will offer to see where you would get the best deal. I put in information for a 6GB Apple iPod mini in an excellent working condition. BuyMyTronics valued it at $44.08 and SecondRotation $39.00. Where would you trade-in the iPod?</p></div>
