He is one of the many people on Metacafe who are racking in a reasonable amount of cash from their videos. The video is less than two minutes long and he probably didn’t need to do a lot of work to set-up and produce it but it has netted him close to $2000. From my own personal experience though, some of the ways in which he says people count money in various parts of the world is in my point of view completely inaccurate. I won’t go into that but all I can say is that he is still making money from it and all it took was a bit of creativity.

I wrote a post on making money with videos at the end of last year and at the time, Metacafe’s top producer Kipkay had earned $65,113. That amount has since risen to $118,782. If this sounds like a good idea to you and you have that creative edge, you might not make anywhere near as much money as that but your chances of earning something worthwhile are good. Their payment structure has not changed over time and they still pay $5 per 1,000 views with the first payment for $100 being paid after crossing the 20,000 views mark.

There are other sites that work on the same concept as Metcafe. One of them is Atom, a startup owned by MTV networks that focuses on web comedy. They put down their formula as: Find talented people, make them famous across the Web and beyond, and pay them well. Their content is not restricted to the web and Atom videos can be found on mobile phones, ipods and TV which means a much wider audience is reached leading to a higher earning potential for content that has what it takes.

To be eligible to earn money from your content, it has to be identified as a top user video by Atom staff and/or the audience. Once a video has been upgraded to “Pro Video” status the creator if offered a commercial distribution offer where they earn money through a revenue sharing program. Atom is not very clear cut on how much users can earn from their videos. They do however state that payments fluctuate based on their quarterly revenue and that as an example in Q4 2007, creators earned about $8 for every 1000 plays. If that were still the case that means you would earn more on Atom than you would on Metacafe provided your video is funny.

This is just one of the many ways in which you can make money with your videos and they don’t even have to be something that you need to sit down and think about to create. They could very well be of random events occurring or have occured in your life that people would find interesting. For those of you who are really creative and looking for a bit of a challenge, stay tuned for a post on creating ads that could make you $2,500 to $60,000.

It is the YouTube for product reviews where you too can get in on the action and make yourself a bit of cash whilst you are at it.

Their service works the same way as any other online video site. The only difference is that you are uploading a video of your opinions. They have a number of categories to choose from and the review you give can be positive or negative. It is you giving your opinion so you can say whatever you want.

They pay $2, $5 or $10 per upload dependant on the product category. They cap the number of uploads per user at 75 so the maximum that you would be able to earn from uploading is $750. A lot of the videos on the site are about 2-3 minutes long but their terms do state that they have to be at least a minute long. They also have a Pay-per-play feature where you earn $0.01 each time a video is played. If you are lucky enough you will get paid even more if your video is used on TV. They have partnered with a number of cable operators where they air a select number of Videopinions reviews. Earnings are paid out via PayPal 4 weeks from the end of the month in which you submitted the video.

Putting together a short video review shouldn’t be too much of a problem and if you need a bit of guidance they have a section full of really useful tips and tricks. If you are creative and have a bit of spare time on your hands it would pay to sign up to ExpoTV.com. You are doing consumers a favor by helping them make a more informed decision on something they may want to buy. For you, it’s just another way of making yourself a bit of money and as they say on their site, “You May Not Get Rich But Some Members Are Making Hundreds A Month.”

What’s different about their service is that they show ads relevant to the content of the video.

You can choose to have the ads appear above the video player or as an overlay. When viewers click on the ads, the advertiser pays blinkx and blinkx shares 50% of the revenue with you. blinkx pays out users in $20 increments and payments are made via PayPal at the end of the month.

At the moment it works with the following video sites: MySpace, GoogleVideo, YouTube, Revver, Metacafe, Veoh, DailyMotion, Break, FunnyOrDie and CollegeHumor. If there are any other sites that you would like them to support all you need to do is contact them.

After having a play around on their site I found it to be pretty impressive and easy to use. All you need to do is copy and paste the embed code for a video onto their site, click next and then you are taken to preview screen where you are asked where you would like the ads to show. The last step it copying the code they generate and pasting it to your page. That simple!

Here is a video of my three month old daughter as an example of how their ads show up.

There are so many video viewing sites on the net with one of the most well known one probably being YouTube. There have been reports flying around of late about being able to monetize your site with YouTube players with Adsense units in them. I have not yet seen any of these. There are other ways of making money with your videos online. Here are three that are worth taking a look at with Metacafe being my personal favourite.

This is a how to video site where experts post how to and instructional videos. As an Expert Village filmmaker you create how-to videos in a field you are an expert in. From the looks of things it can be on just about anything. There is even a video on how to tie a scarf. Their site states that you can make an average of US$300 per assignment.

Metacafe is a video site where you can upload just about anything. It has a program, Producer Rewards where you are paid US$5 for every 1,000 views your video gets. Payments start after your video reaches 20,000 views and has a rating of 3.00 or higher (out of a possible 5). Metacafe’s top earner Kipkay has so far netted himself $65,113.

This video platform works on a really simple concept. You upload your video which is then paired with a targeted advertisement. You can then share your video across the web and the more people that see it the more you make. Ad revenue generated is spilt 50/50 with you and Revver. What’s great about it too is that even if you share a video that is not yours, you get 20% of the ad revenue.
