A few weeks ago, I went on a much needed but short vacation to Thailand. I spent the majority of my time there in and around Phuket and whilst there I visited “The Phuket Cobra Show”. With Phuket being what it is, just about everyone who interacts with tourists is trying to make money off of them but the snake show was the most extreme and deadliest I came across.
A young Thai gentleman named Johnny started off by putting himself in front of three cobras and thrilled us as he dodged their strike attempts. He then finished off that part of the show by pulling out one more cobra bringing the total in front of him to four. This was followed by another gentleman who faced off against three mangrove snakes. Bites from the mangrove snakes aren’t fatal but this part of the show got my heart racing a lot more because the snakes seemed to have a lot of penned up aggression and looked like they were giving it their all at trying to strike their target.
The finale was when Johnny came back into the ring and pulled a huge King Cobra out of it’s box to keep him company. The sheer size of the snake and that fact that a bite from it could see you dead within 30 minutes was mind boggling!
